At Lacylou London, we believe that what you carry should say something about who you are, not just your style, but your spirit and values too.

The spark came unexpectedly. While getting ready for a nigth out, Steve turned to Lacy and said wouldn't it be good if the white flowers on her bag matched her red dress. That led to an idea of interchangeable charms and straps, a playful yet purposeful idea that felt made for sustainability with one bag rather than 10 or 20. Fashion-loving Lacy saw the potential immediately.

What started as a casual comment quickly became a bold idea: to create a bag that evolves with its owner. Not just a handbag for essentials, but a canvas for expressing individuality. A piece that’s as adaptable and expressive as the women who carry it. And one that respects the planet too.

Of course, as any fashion start-up knows, a great idea is only the beginning of a long, often very challenging journey.

Sustainability at Our Core

Lacy, the creative visionary was inspired, and excitedly began sketching bags and charm concepts by hand. She and Steve approached a local production company to bring their designs to life, but that’s when the problems started.

A lifelong animal lover and proud vegan, Lacy was determined to avoid animal-based materials. However, after testing a wide range of vegan leathers, she faced a difficult truth: most alternatives were either prohibitively expensive, environmentally damaging, prone to wear, or simply didn’t offer the luxurious feel modern women expect.

After exhaustive and expensive research, and with a very heavy heart, Lacy made a conscious compromise: she opted for premium, responsibly sourced real leather. Why? Because materials that last a lifetime are ultimately more sustainable than throwaway vegan substitutes that end up in landfills.

This wasn’t about perfection, it was about integrity. About choosing longevity over landfill. Quality over compromise.

From day one, our mission has been rooted in sustainable principles:

• A long-term goal to launch a fully vegan line that meets our ethical and aesthetic standards

We’re not claiming to be perfect, but we are committed to doing better at every step. And literally have the blood, sweat and (many) tears to prove our persistence.

From Sketch to Soul

Once the material was decided, the first leather prototypes were produced using CAD designs of Lacy’s sketches. We'd love to say it was plain sailing from there, but it wasn’t.

Production setbacks piled up: mismatched charm colours, malfunctioning mechanisms, and even bags made from PVC instead of the premium leather that had been ordered. While Lacy could accept certain compromises behind the scenes, quality was never up for debate.

Eventually, we managed to ensure the product is made to met Lacylou’s uncompromising standards, and the brand officially launched.
